Chinese startups are churning out more humanoid robots than their U.S. rivals, despite far lower valuations.

On February 16 of last month, a humanoid robot made by a Chinese company appeared on the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV’s Lunar New Year special program *Spring Festival Gala (Chunjie Wanhui)*, performing group dances and martial arts demonstrations.

A humanoid robot built by Chinese firm Unitree Robotics has reportedly reached a peak running speed of 10 meters per second, roughly 22.4 miles per hour, during controlled testing. If accurate, that puts a two-legged machine within arm’s reach of the average speed Usain Bolt maintained during his world-record 100-meter dash.

Fauna's first product, called Sprout, is a $50,000 bipedal robot that's 3 feet, 6 inches tall and designed to be "approachable and human-friendly."
